Doolin2Aran Ferries started operating with just Cliffs of Moher cruises on board the Moher Princess. In 2005, she was sold and we had the Jack B purpose-built to sail to Inis Oirr as well as the Cliffs of Moher. Then in 2009, we added another purpose-built ship, the Doolin Discovery to our fleet and expanded our ferry service to all three Aran Islands as well as the ever popular Cliffs of Moher cruise. Family Values. The company is owned and operated by four brothers, PJ, Eugene, Joe and Donie Garrihy. According to Eugene – “There’s a great sense of support when you’re working with family, and a great sense of trust. The sea has a strange ability to hold you together down through the years. When you are in the sea, you look after each other, and I think that has brought itself on to the shore here as well and on to the business.” PJ was a fisherman out of Doolin for over 30 years. He saw an untapped opportunity when he noticed that while everyone seemed intent on bringing tourists to the top of the Cliffs of Moher, no one was providing them with a view from the sea. And so a business was born. He was once asked: “You used to be fishing for fish, now you’re fishing for tourists, what would be the main difference?” “Well”, said PJ, “it’s not as smelly anyway!”

Established in 1999, Viking Splash Tours is one of Ireland’s premium tour companies. Combining authentic World War II amphibious vehicles, the DUKWs, with an imaginative and exciting Viking themed tour, the Viking Splash experience is unrivalled in Dublin City.Peter and Lynda Stocks – an Irish-American couple – came across Boston Duck Tours and realised the potential for a similar tour in Dublin. With such a rich, water-based history, there could be no better way of telling this story than with vehicles capable of travelling on both land and water. The first DUKW in the Viking Splash Tours fleet came across to Ireland by ferry and is today known as ‘Balder’ – the Viking god associated with light, beauty, love and happiness.

Selling from an old fire engine on Bull Alley Street, the company had humble beginnings.The concept was unique, colourful and a little crazy so needless to say it was a roaring success right from the start! Viking Splash Tours took tourists and locals from the beaten track of Dublin City Centre and out into the docklands which was just beginning to receive its very own make-over. Now, 10 years later, Viking Splash Tours and the Docklands have been rejuvenated and both have new leases of life.

The fleet increased in size year by year and currently stands at 6 Dukws in total. Originally, each vehicle was distinguished and named by its colour – Yellow, Silver, Blue, Green, Red and Multi, our rainbow coloured DUKW, but recently all of the vehicles have been given makeovers and proper names fit for gods.
